Class 3 Roll Call Post

This is a roll call of my class, Discovering Computer Graphics. More information can be found at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

Class 3, Red Eye Image Assignment

 jpeg
 gif
png

For this assignment I used GIMP to save this picture in three formats: jpeg, gif and png. I do not see a difference in quality between the png and jpeg formats, but the gif format shows lower quality. When I was saving the picture in the gif format, I lowered the Compression Level to make the image size smaller. I think doing so (bringing the level down from a 9 to a 7) definitely affected the quality of the image.

MIDTERM #3

 JPEG
 GIF
PNG

This is a demonstration of three of the same image being saved in different formats. I saved them in jpeg, gif, and png. Using GIMP I first used the text tool to put my name on the image, then I used the export function to save it in these three different formats. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. This screenshot is showing my work, when I was reading the directions in the textbook and using GIMP to write my name on the image and save it in various formats

MIDTERM #2 (Class 3, Assignment 5)

This is a picture of a cat that I added a caption onto. Using GIMP I created a rectangular region box, then colored the background white. Then I added in a text box for my caption, changing the color, font, and size of the text. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

MIDTERM #1 (Class 3, Assignment 5)

This is a picture of a little boy that originally had red eye. I followed the steps of "GIMPShop Tutorials" from the Discovering Bitmap Graphics textbook to get rid of the red eye. I first used the eyedrop tool to take the color of the eye, then I used the brush function to paint the color of his eye in and get rid of the redeye. It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. Roll Call Class #2

Assignment 2-1: My GIMP Photo

This is a (distorted) photo of me in Australia this past summer. I am holding a 5 month kangaroo named Kara who was abandoned by her mother. Australia was incredible and though it's sad that I almost definitely will never go back (so expensive/20 hour flight), I absolutely loved the experience!

PS- I wasn't able to save my picture from GIMP, so I took a screenshot and uploaded that instead.

Class 1, Assignment 5

Hello, My Name is Cara

Hello everyone. My name is Cara and I am currently a sophomore in Boston College. I am in the Lynch School of Education double majoring in Elementary Education and Math/Computer Science. I am from New Jersey, and though a lot of people here think that means something horrible, I love it! I'm really enjoying my second year at Boston College. I'm starting student teaching this fall which is exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. I'm also doing the PULSE program which is a mix of philosophy and theology classes, as well as service in the city. I haven't gotten a placement yet, but I really want to work with Haley House, a soup kitchen/food pantry in Boston.

I've never done much of anything with computer graphics, or taken an online course, so I am really excited (and a bit nervous) for this class.

This is my dog, Rusty, who I miss terribly!
